Funeral Service Held for Popular Official
Charles H Baldwin, prominent Madison Citizen and public official, passed away at his home Sunday afternoon, following a long illness. Mr. Baldwin was 79 years of age at the time of his passing and had lived a long and useful life in his community.
He was the son of the late Charles William and Annie Shepherd Baldwin and was born in Morgan County. He was married in 1903 to Miss Helen Douglas, who preceded him in death several years ago. The Baldwins had two daughters who survive, Mrs. P. W. Buntyn of Decatur, and Miss Charlie Helen Baldwin of Madison.
For the past 50 years, Mr. Baldwin served as Clerk of the Morgan Superior Court and was well known and beloved throughout court circles in the state. He was a Mason and a member of the First Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Baldwin were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the First Methodist Church with his pastor, the Rev. T.H. Wheelis officiating. Burial was a the City Cemetery with W.C. Hemperley in charge.
Charles W. Baldwin, Cecil Baldwin, Blount Baldwin, Albert Baldwin, Carter S. Baldwin, Pierce Baldwin, Ashbury Baldwin, and Joe D. Baldwin, all nephews, served as pallbearers. The choir of the First Methodist Church sang, "A Mighty Fortress in Our God" and "Come Unto Me." The News extends to the Baldwin family their sincerest sympathies.
