Yesterday afternoon, Thursday, 1 January 1903, the Parish Church of West Kirby St Bridget's Church, Church Road, West Kirby, Wirral, Merseyside CH48 3JT 53.3687, -3.1763 was the scene of a brilliant and fashionable wedding, which caused the greatest interest in the district. The contracting parties were Miss Caroline Gertrude Stuart Parker, daughter of Mr. S. Sandbach Parker, [Caldy Manor, Caldy Wood, Caldy, Wirral, Merseyside CH48 2HY 53.3601026, -3.1618862], West Kirby, and Mr. Charles Hastings Dent, son of the late Admiral Dent, of Chester. The father of the bride is a well-known figure in commercial circles in Liverpool, and Mr. Dent is the district superintendent of the Northern Division of the London and North Western Railway Company.

Many friends came from Liverpool and Chester to witness the ceremony, the church being crowded long before the arrival of the bridal party. Amongst the railway officials present were Mr. Cumberland Lowndes (assistant superintendent), Mr. T. Lowton (chief clerk), Mr. A. M. Drysdale, Mr. A. Broomhall, Mr. C. Humphreys, and Mr. W. A. Roberts.

The chancel of the church was beautifully decorated with chrysanthemums and white lilies. The organist, Mr.W. B. Brierley, played the "Bridal March" from "Lohengrin," "Nuptial March" (Guilmant), Mendelssohn's "Wedding March," and other selections, and the hymns sung during the service were "Father, let me dedicate," "Thine for ever," and "O perfect love." The ceremony was performed by the Rector, the Rev. Canon Blencowe.

The bride, who was given away her father, wore a very handsome dress of white crepe chine, white silk embroidery and Brussels lace. She also wore a white tulle veil, a pearl and diamond necklace, the gift of her parents; and a diamond heart, the present of the bridegroom. She carried a beautiful bouquet of lilies and carnations. The bridesmaids were Miss Parker and Miss Olive Parker (sisters of the bride), Miss Seymour Barrow and Miss Edith Parker (cousins of the bride), and Miss Marrow, who were attired in white voile dresses and ecru lace. They wore large silk beaver hats, trimmed with chiffon and ostrich feathers and gold bangles, the gifts of the bridegroom. They carried bouquets of lilies of the valley and Christmas roses. Master Douglas Parker made a very pretty page. Mrs. Sandbach Parker was attired in mauve velvet, trimmed with sable. Commodore Dent, R.N., acted as best man.

At the conclusion of the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride's parents, which was largely attended. Amongst the numerous presents was a solid silver salver from the London and North-Western Railway Northern Division staff.
