NOTE: He was a Veteran of the Am. Civil War, Confederate Army, serving in Captain Richard B. Foley's Co. F. 151st VA Militia, known as "Foley's Copperheads" and recorded in the Confederate files, Richmond, VA, as being organized 8-22-1861.
Family member related that, during the absence of Charles, the family at home had, as food, only potatoes w/o salt for a 3-month period.
Charles and Lucy became members of the Salem Primitive Baptist Church in 1897 and Charles was appointed Clerk and ordained Deacon of the Church, faithfully fulfilling his duties.
He and Lucy are buried in the Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery located on HW US 19/21 at the Raleigh-Mercer Counties line, Flat Top, WV.
