Charles Brownell, son of Benjamin and Clarissa (Baldwin) Ritchie, was born in Sand Lake, Rensselaer County, N. Y., October 16, 1816; died in Springfield, Mo., March 9, 1874; married in Troy, N, Y., September 25, 1839, LUCY ADAMS, daughter of Harmon and Grace Millard Adams, born in Troy, N. Y., January 9, 1819; died in St. Louis, Mo., May 15, 1884, they had twelve children, all born in Troy NY. He was a carpenter and contractor and architect..

In politics he was a Republican, and was Superintendent of the Countv House in Troy, NY for a number of vears.
