About Charles Cookson MacBean
Founder of the McBean family in the USA was Charles 1st Cookson of London, England. He was a graduate of Eton College after which he joined The Guards. They were ordered to India.
He deserted, took his mother's name (MacBean) and came to the USA. He settled in Buffalo, NY in 1838.
He taught languages in the private schools before the city took over the schools and organized the Public School System.
He married Margaret Fritah Dietrich, a widow, in 1840; (she already had one son, George Dietrich who took his step-father's name, McBean).
From the marriage of Charles and Margaret, 8 children were born.
Died in service during the American Civil War.
