About Charles William Dabney
Charles Dabney served in the Revolutionary War from April 1775 to 1783, beginning as a captain, later promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. His unit was called Dabney’s Legion because it was larger than a company and smaller than a regiment. His pension file R13624 and Service Records, totaling 48 pages, are available on the Fold 3 internet site. Biographies of Charles Dabney can be found in: The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Vol. 51, No. 2 (Apr., 1943), pp. 186-199; and The John Blair Dabney Manuscript, edited by Dabney S. Lancaster and Charles William Dabney (Richmond, VA: authors, 1942).
He died unmarried in 1830 at the age of 85.
