8 Aug 1907 - 9 Oct 1907 First appointment to Worcestershire Regiment as 2nd Lieutenant 8 Oct 1907 The London Gazette:- "The War Office, Whitehall. The undermentioned Gentlemen Cadet from the Royal Military College to be Second Lieutenants:- The Worcestershire Regiment, Charles Deakin." Nov 1907 Wynberg, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa In 1907 threatened trouble with native tribes in South Africa had called for an increase in the British forces; and the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire, along with young Charles Deakin, sailed from Southampton to provide reinforcements. 1908 Dover, Kent, England However, the threatened danger did not materialise, and after an uneventful year at Wynberg the Regiment returned to England. 909-1912 Dover, Kent, England The Regiment was stationed at Dover, Kent. 8 Jan 1911 to 13 Apr 1914 Promoted to Lieutenant. 8 Jan 1911 The London Gazette:- Second Lieutenant Charles Deakin to be promoted to Lieutenant. Dated 8th January, 1911 13 Apr 1914 Lieutenant Charles Deakin is seconded for employment with the Army Signal Service. (London Gazette 5th May 1914) Aug 1914 Sailed for France with the 3rd Division. 11 Nov 1914 • Hooge, Menin Road, Ypres, Belgium Charles severely wounded. After some months in hospital, he joined the 13th Division, and proceeded to Gallipoli in June 1915, Was invalided in October to Malta, returning to England at Christmas. His wounds were to cause problems for the rest of his life. 5 Mar 1915 Lists of individuals who served in the British Army from 1882-1962. Promoted from Lieutenant to Captain - 15 Mar 1915 Residence 1915 • Guildford, Surrey, England Apr 1916 Appointed Chief Signal Officer Eastern Command. 23 Jan 1917 to 31 Dec 1919 • London, England Went as Staff Captain to the War Office as Deputy Assistant Director Movements. 1917 During the First World War, he was awarded the O.B.E., was twice mentioned in despatches, given the Chinese order of Wen Hu, and brevet rank of Major in 1917. 2 December 1919 Awarded the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) Serving as a Battalion Major in the Worcestershire Regiment at the time. Jan 1920 Sailed with the Regiment to Chaubattia, India 4 Oct 1921 • Port of London, London, England Arrived from Bombay with wife aboard P & O Dongola. 1921 • The Depot, Norton Barracks, Worcestershire, England Returned to Norton Barracks, Worcestershire. 1922 • Nasirabad, India Left Norton Barracks and was posted to the 1st Battalion at Nasirabad and then on to Meerut, India in 1923. Feb 1923 • Delhi, India Now posted to Delhi and Simla, India, having been appointed a Deputy Assistant Adjutant General (D.A.A.G.) at Army Headquarters. Apr 1927 • Allahabad, India Rejoined the 1st Battalion at Allahabad. 1929 • North China, China Went with the 1st Battalion to North China, returning to Plymouth in 1931. Nov 1932 • The Depot, Norton Barracks, Worcestershire, England Commanded the Depot Worcestershire Regiment: Nov 1932-Nov 1935. 1935 • Aldershot, Hampshire, England Rejoined the 1st Battalion. 1936 • Palestine. Sailed for Palestine in connection with Martial Law, returning in December 1936. Nov 1937 • Sialkot, Punjab, India Commanded the 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment: Nov 1937 to Nov 1940, at Sialkot, in the Punjab. He played hockey for the 3rd Battalion, and kept it up until he was forbidden to play any more after his 50th birthday. 1939 • The Depot, Norton Barracks, Worcestershire, England He is probably one of the very few officers who was commanding a unit in 1914, and was also commanding a unit in September, 1939. His total service in the Regiment was 33 years. Nov 1940 • Sialkot, North India. Completed his tenure of command and Lt-Col P.W.
