CHARLES FRANCIS DOWSER son of Charles Dana (770), was b. Aug. 10, 1844, in Shirley, Mass., and is a member of the firm of Bigelow & Dowse, hardware merchants, 229 Franklin St., Boston, Mass., and res. at 347 Marlboro' st. He is a Mason and a member of the Bos- ton Art Club. He m. Nov. 11, 1875, Lucy Ada, dau. of Frederic and Eliza (Merriam) Howes. She was b. July 4, 1845. Capt. Frederic Howes invented "Howes' rig," used on sails of vessels, and also the "four- fluked anchor."
