About Charles Roberts Ebersol
Charles R. Ebersol was a chairman of the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Ebersol was elected board chairman in 1971. He began with the society in 1946 as a door-to-door fund-raiser. In 1979, he won the organization's distinguished service award.
Mr. Ebersol graduated from Haverford College in Pennsylvania. He received his law degree from Yale University in 1941.
He was awarded the Bronze Star in World War II while a Navy intelligence officer with a torpedo boat squadron. He began practicing law in Torrington, Conn., in 1946, later serving as a town prosecutor and judge.
Born in Pittsburgh, he was married to Mary Duncan Ebersol for 55 years; she died on Jan. 1, 2001
