About Charles Ellwood Cox
Charles Ellwood Cox attended Haverford College. He was principal of a mid-western school (perhaps Iowa?). He taught mathematics at Stanford University, until he was terminated. There are some who suspect he was terminated for political (liberal) views; Mrs. Stanford was apparently a right-winger.
He was a very present father to his two daughters (Anna and Catharine). Tom King of California (not sure where) is researching San Jose and the influence of the Quakers, including Joel Bean (Grandfather of Anna and Catharine Cox, and father of Lydia Bean Cox). After his wife Lydia Cox passed away, Charles Cox remarried someone affectionately known by her grandchildren as "Grandma Fix." This entry will be update when we have new information (ie the actual name of "Grandma Fix").
In approximately 1922, Anna and Howard Brinton moved to Richmond Indiana, where they taught at Earlham. Lydia, Ed and Catharine Brinton were born in Richmond Indiana. Charles and Grandma Fix moved from San Jose and lived next door to the family. We think they moved to be near to the growing family, but we are not sure.
Entry by Margaret Cary and Cathy Brinton Cary.
