Charles French Folland was intended for the Army but was dissuaded by his Uncle who fought at Waterloo under Wellington. He was apprenticed to a Grainer and subsequently received the Freedom of the City of Barnstaple. Charles and Charlotte lived on land he owned and farmed at Enfield, South Australia. Folland Avenue, Enfield is named after him. The old house they lived in is in Gurney Terrace, Enfield. There is also a park in memory of the Follands containing the last trees and native pines left in the area. The original pioneers cut nearly all the trees down for use in building.
