About Charles E. "Per Otto" Gustafson

Charles came to this country and located first in Aledo, Mercer county, IL in 1868. In 1876 he came to Page county, Iowa, and located on a farm. He later moved to a farm in Montgomery county in 1890. In 1903 he retired from farming and came to Red Oak to make his home.
After first wife Clara died (Jan 1918), Charles went back to Sweden for a vacation or short period of time. On the way back on a ship he met Esther and they were married shortly there after. They lived in both Hartford, Conn and Red Oak, Iowa. Charles died at Clarkson hospital in Omaha on Sunday at 10:00 after a six week illness.It is believed Ester died in Hartford, Conn. See "Red Oak Express" paper dated Sept. 3, 1934.

1910 Census: Red Oak township, Montgomery County, Iowa, Enum #114, 5801, sheet 12A; shows Charles, Clara and Hilma living together in Red Oak at 1206 Boundary Street.
Questions: a 13th child by the name of Charles is believed to have lived in South Dakota.
