Biographical Summary

"Charles Wilkie Hardy, born 26th Sept. 1788, third son of Thomas H., D.D., min. of West St Giles, Edinburgh; educated at Univ of Edinburgh; licen. by Presb. of Linlithgow 24th April 1811; pres. by Thomas Robert, Earl of Kinnoull, in Feb., and ord. 23rd April 1813; died 6th Feb. 1814. Shortly before his death he was waylaid and suspended for a time by his feet under a bridge, an outrage which was said to have caused his death."
