About Charles Joseph Philipps
Charles Joseph Philipps was employed as Secretary to the General Manager, in the G.I.P. Railway.
Charles, Edith and family lived in "Bandra Shelter" on Pali Road, in Bandra West, Bombay, India. They were parishioners of St. Peter's Church, on Hill Road and are buried in that churchyard.
Charlie Philipps was one of the earliest genealogists in Bandra's East Indian community. About the 1940s, he produced an excellent descendancy chart of the Philipps family, going back to Surgeon Major Benjamin Philipps (c1772 - 1838), who was a doctor and surgeon in the British Army in India, who retired in 1825, returned to England and settled in 3 Berkeley Place, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, in his retirement.
There exists, among the descendants of this family, a large family photo of Joseph and Rosemary Bocarro, probably taken at Christmas 1936, and probably in front of the first "the Anchorage", off Hill Road, Bandra West, Bombay, India. It shows 31 of their children and grandchildren.
