About Charles Edward Kent
Charles Edward Kent was born in Bountiful, Davis, Utah Territory in 1858 to parents, Sydney Kent and Mary Mathilda Daley Kent. In the 1870 U.S. Federal Census, Charles is 11 years old and is living with his parents and siblings, Sydney, 42, Mary, 40, Sara A., 19, Sydney Warren, 17, William Riley, 15, Eliza Matilda, 10, Samantha Adaline, 8, Philo Alvaro, 5, and Alice Eveline, 3 years old. Sydney is working as a farmer and the value of his real estate is $5,000 and his personal estate at $1,500. Sydney and his wife, Mary, were both born in Ohio and all their children were born in Utah. By 1880, Charles is 21 and he has already married Susan Vilate Noble, also 21 years old when they were both 16 years old, on June 14, 1875, in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1880 they already had a 4 year old daughter, Almira, a one year old son, Charles, and 3 month Theodore Kent. Charles is working as a farmer.
Twenty years later in 1900, the family is living in Dingle, Bear Lake, Idaho, Charles and Susan Vilate are 41 years old, and have several more children who are listed as follows: Elnora V. 24, Charles E., 21, Theodore Noble., 20, Mary Eveline,, 18, Leo L., 11, Iva Loretta, 14, Almira Lavon, 11, Lovera Lovelace., 7, Gwendolyn Arthel., 4, and Golden Clark, 1 year old. Charles and Susan Vilate have been married for 25 years, and have given birth to eleven children, ten of whom are still living. Charles is now raising sheep. He owns his own farm free from a mortgage. His three oldest children also either work on the farm or are sheep herders. Another daughter, Eudora Belva was born in 1901, and two additional stillborn infants were born in 1903 and 1905.
Sadly, just four years later, Susan Vilate Noble Kent passed away February 21, 1909, in Lovell, Big Horn, Wyoming. Why she was in Wyoming at the time of her death is unknown. She is buried in the Lovell Cemetery in Lovel, Big Horn County, Wyoming. I don't know where Charles Edward Kent was living between 1900 and 1930, but in the 1930 U.S. Federal Census for Logan, Cache, Utah, he is living with one of his son's family.
In this census, Charles Edward Kent, Jr., is 52 years old, married to his wife, Rhoda, 49, and they have three children, Dorothy, 18, Nina, 13, Edward Kent, 11. Charles Edward Kent, Sr., is a 73 year old widow. Charles Edward Kent, Jr., and his wife Rhoda had been married for 29 years. They are renting their home for $10.00 per month. Charles is working as a night watchman at a school. Rhoda is a maid at a hotel. Five years later, Charles Edward Kent, Sr., passed away on February 25, 1935 in Montpelier, Bear Lake, Idaho, at the age of 76 years old.
