1860 census Monguagon Twnshp pg 677 has two children in the household, Louisa and Ellen Cotecote?? ae 14 and 15, probably Ellen's children by a previous marriage. Yes, last name is Cadoret.
1870 census has MATHILDA Labelle aged 14 in household of James and ELLEN McCollum. Age of Ellen is listed as 47, somewhat less that would be expected of someone who was 43 in 1860.

Discharge lists him as 5'7", dark skin, blue eyes, and gray hair.
