He had charge of the brig "Carib " and bark "Nautilus." He was engaged for many years in the fruit trade between Boston and the Mediterranean ports, for William Worthington & Co. In 1856, he was appointed port warden of Boston by the Boston Marine Society, which office he held for twenty years.
