NATIVE OF COLVILLE KILLED IN ACCIDENT
Charles Mantz, aged 25 years, farmer of Dayton, died in the Walla Wall hospital Wednesday morning from injuries received in an auto accident the previous day, near Dixie. He and W.E. McKinney, a garage man of Waitsburg, were rounding a sharp curve to approach a bridge. The car got out of control and shot across the road and into a ditch, where it was wrecked. Both men were hurled from the car, McKinney slightly injured, and Mantz fatally injured. He was taken to the hospital at Walla Walla where he died the next morning.
Mr. Mantz was born Nov. 1, 1895, in Colville, He was the youngest son of Charles Mantz, deceased, former state senator from Stevens county. He attended the Colville schools, and was a general favorite among the young people of his age.
He leaves a grandmother Mrs. Elizabeth K . Arnold, a sister Miss Mary Mantz of Colville, a sister Mrs. Ruth Larsen of Yakima, and a brother Lee A. Mantz of Walla Walla. Decease was a member of the K. of P. and D.O.K.K.
Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 at the Congregational church, conduced by Rev. J.M. Huggins, pastor.
Burial services at the grave were in charge of the Colville lodge of Knights of Pythias, J.C. Hard chancellor commander.
