Charles Arthur Marsh

Charles A. Marsh was born Oct. 2, 1856 in Muscatine, Iowa, the youngest of five sons of John Marsh and Eliza Tracer. John Marsh brought the family to California in the 1870's, establishing the farm where Charles lived the rest of his life. Charles became a prominent farmer and rancher in his area. He was always interested in education and served on his local school board. Charles died December 21, 1938 in Fresno County, California and is buried in Mendocino Cemetery with his wife.

He married Sarah "Sadie" Zediker, daughter of David S. Zediker and Eliza Robbins, in Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., Iowa on March 15, 1877. She was born in 1852 in Iowa and died in 1942 in Fresno County, CA.

Charles and Sarah appear on the 1900 US Census for Fresno County, California. Charles is age 45, born in Iowa, and a farmer by occupation. His father was born in New York and his mother was born in Ohio. Sarah is age 47 and born in Iowa. There are three children in the household. Beryl is 22, Arthur is 20 and Glenn is 13.

Charles appears on the 1860 US Census for Muscatine County, Iowa, as a four-year old son living with parents John and Eliza Marsh. He appears on the "1896 GREAT REGISTER OF FRESNO COUNTY " line 67, listed as a farmer, age 40, born in Iowa. Charles is also included in the 1905 book "History of the state of California and biographical record of the San Joaquin Valley, California." by Prof. J. M. Guinn, which heralds the success of the Marsh farm.

Charles and Sarah appear on the 1910 US Census for Parlier, Fresno County, California. Charles is a 53 year old male, a farmer, born in Iowa. Sarah is age 57, and also born in Iowa. They have been married 33 years. In the same household are daughter Beryl, granddaughter Edythe, and sons Arthur and Glen, both of whom work in the fruit industry.
