From researcher Chris Tuten: Charles owned land in Long Bluff and in 1768 gave land to the county to erect a jail and courthouse at what was later called Society Hill (Statutes at Large, vol. 4, p. 649). In 1785, he was among a group of merchants who secured a charter to open a "Fair and Market Place" in Greeneville (Society Hill). Elizabeth Irby married first to a Hart. Their son James founded Hartsville in Darlington Dist., SC.

Ancestry.com (07_23_2015): eze85m originally shared this 'Charles Mason purchased land in Orange County, Va. from Power & Davis in 1785. His will executed Jan. 28, 1788 and recorded March 28, 1788, names his children and one grandchild. Guardians were appointed for all but two sons. His sons, Charles and Micajah were executors. Witness: James B. Webb and Richard K. Webb. Richard Webb and John Lancaster were named as sureties. Rebecca, Charles and Micajah were guardians of the minor children and when Rebecca died in 1791, Charles took over the responsibility. The grandson named in the will was Charles Bailey Mason. Charles Mason served in the Revolutionary War under George Rogers Clark and was awarded Bounty land in Kentucky for his service.'
