Charles McKee

Born in Donnegal, Ireland, September 16,1768, Charles McKee imigrated to Newcastle, Delaware reportedly exactly on his twenty-seventh birthday, after a three month voyage. The Ireland he left was so dominated at that time by the Church of England that education to native children was prohhibited. Schoolmasters in the Donnegal area taught classes hidden behind hedges during good weatherand inone barnor another during wet or cold weather; when caught by the "Red coats" those schoolmasters were jailed.

Six years after landing in our United States, in 1801 Charles settled in "Paradise", Pennsylvania, "housekeeping", and lived there until his death October 28,1861. (Mc Kee Family History)
