Charles Baillie Mulholland left Nova Scotia after his mother's death and returned to Scotland. He resided in Blantyre and was cared for by his maternal grandmother.
He met my mother, Jessie, while on a holiday in Ireland in 1938.
When the war broke out in 1939, he joined the Royal Marines and was attached to 40 Cdo. . He joined as a boy (17). His first year in service was stationed in Johnstone, Scotland. Once he turned 18, he was posted to Portsmouth and deployed with the rest of the unit.
It took Jessie and Charles a long time before they were able to settle in Canada. Jessie arrived for the first time in 1947 and departed from New York on the Queen Elizabeth to Southampton. She and her two older children arrived on Dec 29, 1950. (file number 166290 - Ancestry.co.uk)
