Charles Pedoniquot

Charles Pedoniquot, the 26 year old son of William Pedoniquot # 986. is # 993 on the 1907 Wooster Roll. He is the twin brother of John Pendiquot # 1000. Charles Pendiquot's traditional name is recorded as "Madjianakwad " meaning "Drifting Cloud" but that translation requires scrutiny and comment by those with expertise in the nuances of the Anishinaabemowin language and Potawatomi culture. In 1907 Charles Pedoniquot was living at Cape Croker with his wife Sarah, his son Cleveland, and 4 stepchildren - the children of Sarah's first marriage. They all held full rights in Canada.

The 1911 Census of Canada has more information about the Pedoniquot family. Sarah's children from her first marriage are listed as stepsons and stepdaughter of Charles. Their Chegano surname is mistranscribed and the reported age of Charles has increased from 26 to 39 between 1907 and 1911 so caution is necessary in recording Charles's true birthdate.
