He served in the Coast Guard but may be listed as National Maritime Center. He served from July 10, 1898 to Sept 30 1899 and died of malaria. His number was 775065 USN

Below is a report from Jillian from the Genealogy.ie company and is retyped by Rev Kelson. Things are not clear about Charles P Kelson, nor is it understood if he was born Sweden or Germany. There are many variants for Charles, name, birth date, and even where his was born.

Jillian, writes one possibility, is Charles P Kelson could be a Carl Peter Olasson/Olson Kjeilsson that arrived in California then transferred to Florida later. In the 1875, records, there are some detailed information about Charles' arrival but this document was found under Carl Peter Olasson/Kjeilsson Charles Kelson. His birth date was given as April 9th 1954 born in Sweden. This search was found in the Swedish birth records and given for a Carl Peter Olasson/Olson Kjeilsson.

He was baptized as a Carl Petter. Normally his surname would have been Olasson/Olson but from the 1875 records it seems he has acquired both names because they are both recorded. Both names were used when traveling as well. Another possibility, in the 1880 census from California, there wasn't a Charles P Kelson listed but another potential candidate was listed as Charles Kalsson living in Ohio but again only speculation."

So no further traces from Sweden nor from 1900 Census was found in California under either surname's Kelson/Kjeilsson or Olasson. However, geni has a Carl Petter Olsson not Kjellson with a death date given as Sept 1907 from California but no detailed information can be found nor further leads from the 1880 census from California.

Theory two, Carl Kilson arrived in New York late 1881 and this could be the Charles P because he put 1882 on his immigration report. So, From the 1875 and 1881 there were a good portion of the immigration records that were from Sweden and then they went to California.

"The same information was discovered, Charles P Kelson was born April 9 1854. The 1900 census stated he was born in April 1854 and baptized April 13 1854 in Forslov, Kristianstad Sweden. He is the son of Ola Kelson/Kjellsson and Anna Catharina Olsdotter. The search from Swedish records does not include Charles but Carl has been changed to Charles as an Americanization of Carl frequently. Also, Sweden was using patronymics during Charles P time frame. He was baptized as Olasson as a patronymic for his father's given name Ola.

When Charles arrived in the US on March 8 1875, he was Carl Peter Olasson Kjellsson. He was single and unmarried and traveled alone, departing from Forslov, Kristianstad, Sweden and arrived in California USA. "His Declaration of Intent" Naturalization recored on 28 April 1892 is spelled C.P. Kellsen and states he was age 35 at entry to this country and he had been living in Florida for 8 years."

Charles/Carl's parents were Ola Kjellsson and Anna Cathrina Olsdotter. They married Jan 8 1848 in Forslov. His father Ola was born in 1822 and died March 20 1875. His mother Anna was born May 31 1832 and she died in 1910.

Charles/Carl's siblings are Carolina May 11 1848, Jan Petter May 26 1850, Otto Nov 15 1851, Jan Petter Dec 17 1856, Johannes Nov 17 1859, Alfrid/Alfred June 15 1862, August May 14 1864, Mathilda Baptist Feb 26 1870, Oscar Baptist Dec 29 1867 and Elof Baptist May 10 1872
