About Charles Wesley Phillips
The Holdenville Daily News Holdenville, OK 26 Jul 1939
Charles Wesley Phillips, resident of the Spring Creek community for the past 23 years, died this morning at 8:30 o'clock at Calvin. He had been in ill health for a number of years.
Mr. Phillips, born Nov. 15, 1850, was one of the county's oldest residents. A Bible in possession of the Phillips family for more than a century gives this as his birthdate.
Mr. Phillips will be buried after funeral services at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at Spring Creek. The Rev. W. P. Scott of Spring Creek will be the officiating minister and burial will be in the Spring Creek cemetery.
Until 1916, Mr. Phillips lived in Madison County, Ark., where he was born at Huntsville. In 1916, after the death of his wife, he came to Oklahoma and settled at Spring Creek, where relatives already lived. Since 1923, his health had been such that he was forced to give up farming and made his home with relatives.
Each year a big birthday dinner has been given for him, with around 100 relatives and friends attending.
Long-time friends will be bearers at rites tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock.
Survivors include three sons, Walter, Jim and Edd, all of Spring Creek and two daughters, Mrs. W. K. Grimes, Calvin, at whose home he died and Mrs. Tida Wilcox, Wetumka, in addition to a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
