About Charles Shirly, Sr.

Charles Shirley and Rebecca Collier, daughter of John Collier of England and Millie Vaughan, were married to near the Kentucky River at what is now called Fayette County, Kentucky, Charles is buried in Missouri and Rebecca (Collier) Shirley is buried in the Colglazier Graveyard near Charlestown, Indiana. Rebecca Shirley's father, John Collier, had but one leg, he was bitten by a dog and had to have it amputated. He was considered a man of wealth, in those days, but surgery and medical aid being rare and expensive, his means were greatly reduced. He is buried in a churchyard at Muddy Creek, as is his wife, Millie Vaughan The graveyard is not far from Charlestown, Indiana. One of Millie's brothers came to this country, in search of Liberty and located in the south, I think Georgia. He was very successful and accumulated a great deal of this worlds goods and owned a great number of slaves, becoming so proud, he forgot his relatives.
