About Charles Henry Stoddard

Charles Henry Stoddard, son of Israel Stoddard (1804 - 1846) and Sarah Woodward (1805 - 1846), was born 21 April 1827 at Jacobstown, Burlington County, New Jersey. He was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 1 December 1849, at the age of 21. Two years later he married Anna Telford on 22 February 1851. They emigrated to Utah with the Harry Walton/Garden Grove Company, which departed on 17 May 1851 and arrived in the Great Salt Lake Valley on 24-25 September 1851. He married Matilda Ann Duncan, 31 March 1858, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; they had three children and then were divorced. Charles Henry Stoddard died 2 September 1907 Richmond, Cache County, Utah and was buried at Richmond City Cemetery, Richmond, Cache County, Utah.

Discussion

Some sources list Charles Henry Stoddard and Anna Telford's place of marriage as Bountiful, Davis County, Utah Territory, but this must be incorrect as they were married prior to traveling to Utah, and they didn't arrive in the Great Salt Lake Valley until September of 1851. They were married in February, three months prior to departure of the wagon train; therefore they cannot have been married in Utah and further research must be done to determine where their marriage took place.
