About Charles William Carter
Charles and Margaret Carter moved from Edinburgh, Scotland to London, Ontario then to Olds, Alberta in 1910. They moved with the Chaffey family, and farmed on the SE 10-33-2-W5 for many years.
Mr. Carter was a trustee of Hainstock School for many years, and was also a memeber of the Masonic Lodge. Both Mr and Mrs Carter were highly respected members of the Hainstock community and contributed their share to the enhancement of the their local district.
They had three daughters. Elizabeth or "Lizzie" as she was more familiarly known, married Galen Hooper of Olds, Verna married David Petrie and they lived in the Vancouver area. Eva married a man by name of Mortimer and they lived in Red Deer. All three daughters are now deceased. Among the grandchildren surviving are Jack Hooper, Calgary and Margaret (Hooper) Stephen, also of Calgary.
When her husband passed away, Mrs Carter moved to Olds. She bought a small home on the north side of Hwy. 27, just across from the High School. Before the days of school busses, she would often take in high school girls and young working girls as boarders. No doubt, her cheery little home and good home-cooking would help ease the homesickness of a young girl's first time away from home.
