Matthew Gillaspie Carrico served The Republic of Texas in 1836 with Company of Kentucky Volunteers 1st Regiment. In 1844 Matthew Gillaspie Carrico served with Mounted Volunteers, Shelby County, Texas. Sometimes he was listed as Martin G. Carrico.

Mary Charlotte Gary's parents were James Henry Gary born May 19, 1813 in Newberry County, South Carolina and Nancy Murry born 1816/1817 Louisiana. James Henry Gary (1st) marriage was to Nancy Murry November 11, 1830, Sumter, Alabama. They traveled with the Gary family through the years until they arrived in Texas in 1849.

James Henry Gary and Nancy Murry Gary settled in Panola County. His parents William Whitten Gary and Rutha Gordon daughter of Govin Gordon, his brothers and sisters and family journeyed to Rusk County in 1849. Some settled in Rusk County while others settled in Bosque County, Texas in 1851. James' brother Govy Gordon Gary, and brother Andrew "Jackson" Gary, settled in San Augustine County, TX about 30 miles from Panola County where James Henry Gary lived a few years later. Nancy Murry Gary died 1852 - 1856. Her burial place is thought to be in Panola County, Texas. James Henry Gary (2nd) marriage was to Mrs. Olivet S. White January 5, 1856 Panola County, Texas. They divorced November 29, 1864 Panola County, Texas.

Carl "Coral" Carrico and Carrie Ritter Carrico both Mount Bethel Cemetery, Panola County, Texas. Special thanks to D.L. Carrico a descendant who shared information regarding Carl "Coral" Carrico. In 1880 US Census Justice Precinct No. 8 Panola Couty, Texas his name was spelled Coral L. Carrico, age 11. The cemetery listing has his first name spelled Carl. His name could have been spelled by phonics as was done in 18th & 19th century.
