About Chase Driggs

Chase Driggs, 89, of Ammon, died April 23, 2002, at his home.

He was born September 21, 1912 in Big Cottonwood (now Holladay), Utah to Mark Kimball Driggs and Josephine Eliza Brinton Driggs. He graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City after being named All-State in Football, Baseball, and Basketball and being named the Utah Athlete-Scholar of the year. He also was on the debate team and had the lead in the high school opera. He attended the University of Wyoming, receiving his Bachelors Degree in Business and Law. Later, he attended Utah State University to receive his Masters Degree.

He entered the Air Force shortly before World War II broke out in 1941 and was sent to the Burma-China Theatre as an intelligence officer. He served with General Chennault and was a member of the Flying Tigers in China. Later in the war, he served in New Mexico and assisted in testing the atomic bomb. Following the war, he was sent to Germany and assigned to the Judge Advocate office of the occupational forces where he attended the Neurenburg trials. He received a personal phone call from President Eisenhower for his work with the missile program. He retired from the Air Force after 26 years of active duty.

Married Josette Felton in 1949. They were later divorced. Married Merle Grover on November 1, 1958. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He taught at Bonneville High School and received a commendation from the State of Idaho for his work with the DECA program. He later retired from the school district.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the scouting program and as a teacher. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, all sports, music, oil painting, golfing, making thought cards, and various crafts.

(Kirsten) Driggs, McKinney, TX 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vaughn; and 3 sisters, Mary, June and Madeline.

Funeral Services will be at 12 noon Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the Ammon LDS 4th Ward (3002 Central Ave.), with Bishop Steve Hall officiating. The family will meet with friends on Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Ammon LDS 4th Ward Building and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in Rigby-Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
