About Chay Russell Grant
Chay Grant and his little brother Robert went out stargazing with their dad, and were fast asleep in the back of the car when their father killed them and himself. The family had a barbecue at their Christchurch home on March 24, 1996 before Colin Grant took his two sons, seven-year-old Chay and four-year-old Robert, to look at the stars from the Port Hills. Grant's car was found the following day at a rest area beside State Highway 73, near Porters Pass in central Canterbury. He and his sons had died of carbon monoxide poisoning from car exhaust fumes. At an inquest, Deputy Coroner Colin Marshall was told that Grant had been mentally stable until being injured in a car crash three years earlier. Following the crash, he had not coped well, and he and his wife, Sharon, were having marital problems. Source: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/faces-of-innocents/81443538/faces-...
