About Chaya Sarah Halberstam
Chaya Sarah Halberstam married R' Yechezkel Shraga of Vranov and had five children. She was murdered by the Nazis in World War II. The Jews of Vranov were deported with the assistance of their Slovak Catholic neighbors, and she appears on a deportation list from 1942 viewed in Vranov in 2000 by her daughter, Chana Shaindel, the only one of her children known to have survived the war. The Jews deported from Vranov were gassed in mobile vans in 1942, on 13 Chesvan in Rejovice, Poland, which was a transit camp on the route to Auschwitz. They were buried in a mass grave. according to the sole survivor of this deportation and mass murder.
