Chloe Pelton

1st marriage was in Hartland, Conn. 3 Dec. 1786, to Obediah Gildersleeve, b. Northport, L.I. 21 Aug. 1763, d. Gustavus, Ohio,

12 Oct. 1805, son of Obediah and Mary (Dinge) Gildersleeve. In June 1804 they removed to Gustavus, Ohio, from Hartland, Conn. where they were among the original pioneers of that section. He d. there the next year.

Her 2nd marriage abt. 1811, was to Josiah Pelton, who d. abt. 1819, no children to the 2nd marriage (Was he son of Josiah and Mary (Griswold) Pelton of Gustavus?). After the death of Mr. Pelton, the Gildersleeve name was shortened to Gilder, which form it has since retained.

Sept. 1848, m. 1808, Betsey Folsom.

2) Mary (Polly) Gilder, b. 5 Apr. 1789, d. 13 Aug. 1866, unm.

3) Chloe Gilder, b. 13 Apr. 1791, d. 11 May 1807, drowned in a creek

near Kingman, Ohio.

4) Obed Gilder, b. 23 Mar. 1793, d. Kinsman, Ohio, 25 Nov. 1885, m.

Kinsman, abt. 1818, Betsey Gunn, b. 20 Nov. 1796, d. Kinsman, 7 Dec. 1864. He operated a grist mill, carriage and machine shop near his homestead.

5) Orril Gilder, b. 23 May 1795, d. 27 Jan. 1891, m. 14 Apr. 1819, Ira

Meachem, b. 18 Sept. 1784.

6) Sally (Sarah) Gilder, b. 3 Apr. 1798, d. Mar. 1880, unm.

7) Anise Gilder, b. 17 July 1800, d. abt. 1869/70, m. 19 Oct. 1825, John B. Fitch, gr-son of John Fitch of steamboat fame.

8) Phebe Gilder (FR), b. 13 Nov. 1802, d. 19 Mar. 1897, unm.

9) Elizabeth Gilder, b. 2 Apr. 1804/5, d. 8 Oct. 1806, was called Betsey.
