Brief overview:

Chris (46) was gunned down on 5th July 2009 by a gang of armed robbers which had been terrorising people in the Hartbeesfontein for over two months. The perpetrators smashed a car window and then hammered on a window of Lubbe's caravan at the Hartbeesfontein Rest Camp, located at the foot of a mountain in the forest. He went to investigate and was shot in the back when running back to the caravan. The bullet hit a main artery and lodged in his lung. A doctor friend tried to resuscitate Lubbe, but he died at the scene within four minutes.

"The robbers had attacked another family in their caravan, stealing jewellery, bank cards, clothes, cash and cell phones," North West police spokesperson Inspector Sam Tselanyane said. According to Tselanyane, three robbers were involved. They were armed with a hunting rifle and knives.
