Notes for Christian Bowman and Barbara
1718 Christian Bowman settled on land obtained from the London Company in 1718 and it was patented to him in 1730. [1]
1729-30 Christian Bauman was on a list of “Names of Early Settlers of Berks and Montgomery Counties, Originally Philadelphia County who were naturalized 1/9/1729-1730: (Votes of Assembly, III, p 131)”. [2]
1735 The will of Christian Bowman, potter of Providence in Philadelphia county, was written 22 April 1727 and probate was on 26 Feb 1735. The date Dec'd 1735 was recorded on the will, suggesting the date of death. Wife Barbara was named executor. [3]
1736 On 8 April, Orphans' Court records report that widow Barbara had debts and five small children. Widow Barbara sold her land to Conrad Stamm in 1737. [4]
c 1735 The bible of son Christian Bowman listed the five children named here with their birthdates, apparently entered in that bible by son Christian (born 1724). [5]
c 1735-37 Jacob Nimrod Bowman, son of Christian and Barbara Bowman, was raised by Anne Weaver, daughter of Wendel Bowman, who lived in the Pequea Creek area of Lancaster County. [6]
1740 On 18 March, Reverend John Tschantz and wife Magdalene transferred land to Martin Miller senior, Martin Miller blacksmith, Martin Miller junior, Benjamin Bowman, and Barbara Bowman. These names could refer to Christian Bowman's brother Benjamin and his widow, Barbara. [7]
1749 Christian Bowman, or his son, built a log dwelling, which was passed down to descendants for over 100 years. [8]
Research Notes:
Several attempts have been made, many with errors, to identify the relationships among the descendants of Wendel Bowman (c1681-c1735), father of this Christian Bowman (1702-1735). We show the relationships as described by Emmert Bittinger [9], who reviewed prior research and considered new evidence.
