Christian1 Dolloff born about 1639 probably in England or Holland; died 18 August 1708 in Exeter, New Hampshire; married before 1667 Rachel Moulton; married 10 October 1674 Sarah Scammon.
The name Dolloff has been found in records with numerous spellings and mispellings. According to Henrietta Dolloff Johnson "It has been claimed by earlier searchers, as recorded by Ellen Hills many years ago..no authorities given...that the name is Dutch, that it was, according to tradition in her family, originally spelled 'Christian Logardin Dalhoof..pronounced..Logar'din Darl-oof'. So far as I have found, no records exist as to his origin, nor at what date he arrived in N.E. The first record at Exeter is the tax lists of Dover, in 1659."
I have also seen claims that he was Russian but I have not seen any proof.

The boy they paid for but it took them longer to get the girls back.
notes on interent: My understanding of this episode is that three Dollhof children were captured by Indians on their walk to school. Olga Dolloff who lived in the Dolliff Homestead in the 1990s showed me the spot near a creek where she understood they were taken. As I heard it, the Dolloff family persuaded the colonial legislature to ransom the two boys back but they could not raise enough funds for the girl. She eventually married an Indian and they returned to try to live near Exeter but the cultural divide was too great for them to stay and they moved back to his culture. At this time the Exeter area was on the border with French and Indian controlled Maine and such raids were commonplace until the British and colonial forces broke the back of the French Canada in 1763.
