April 5, 1928 from Hills Crescent News Paper C.E. Halls, Pioneer, Died Last Sunday Morning. Leaves Wife and Five Children Morn His Death; A Friend to All. Christian E. Halls for the past eighteen years a resident of Hills, and one of the pioneer settlers in this section, passes away to his last reward last Sunday morning, April 1st, 1928. Mr. Halls had reached the ripe old age of 81 years, 5 months and 27 days. He was born in Gudbrandsdalen, Norway on October 3, 1846 and in company with his parents, two sisters and one brother, came to this country in 1866. He was united in marriage to Miss Anne Hansen on April 17, 1878 and to this union five children were born, namely: Mrs. Eliza Stordahl, Jasper, MN; Albert H. Halls, Hills; Carl B. Halls, Webster, SD; Arthur M Halls, Hills; Anton C. Halls, Garretson, SD. Mr. Halls came to Rock County in the year 1873 and has since been identified with all movements for the betterment of the community. He encountered all the trials and hardships that fell to the lot of settlers who took homesteads here more than fifty years ago, when there were no roads worth mentioning, and at times many days were spent traveling from and to the nearest trading post. Some day monuments will be erected throughout the Great Northwest in honor of the men and women that left home and friends to pave a way for future generations, who might live in peace and plenty. ….Services are being held today from the home and at Bethlehem church and with interment in Bethlehem cemetery. The following acted as pall bearers: Lars Kolsrud, Otto Sather, Henry Moen, Olaf Hash, Andrew Sudem & Andrew Rogness. (County records show the following for Christian E. Halls, b. 13 Oct 1846 in Norway, d. 1 Apr 1928, Father: Erland Halsbakken, Mother: Annie ____.)
