German Settler ship "WANDRAHM"

564 tons departed Hamburg 31 August 1958 and arrived in East London on 6 December 1858 under Captain H. Decker and ships doctor Fr. August Hanf. On board were a total of 74 families or 344 souls. 10 Children and 1 adult died during the voyage.

Christian Kockott Aged 39 - occupation peasant and his wife Christiane aged 39 from Werben, Spreewald with 6 children and they settled in Frankfort. Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Note added by Judy Roberts (born Judith Kockott in 1952): Christian Kockot came from the village of Werben in the Spreewald region of Germany. The family were Wends, a Slavic minority in Germany. Christian, his wife and six children sailed from Hamburg, Germany. They landed in East London (now part of South Africa) on 16th December 1858. They settled in the area then known as British Kaffraria, which encompassed East London, King Williams Town and Grahamstown.
