Christian was a son of Jacob Stauffer. Jacob emigrated from Switzerland as a child with his parents, Hans and Kinget(Hiestand) (Reiff) Stauffer. He was married to Susanna Buckwalter and they had one son and 4 daughters. Christian served in the Revolution in the regiment of his neighbor, General Mad Anthony Wayne, taking part in several battles including the decisive Battle of Yorktown. After the war he settled down to farming.
