About Christian Weber, I
- Weber family said to originally be from Bavaria. Followed a circuitous route to get to Pennsylvania. (see MEDIA for inconclusive research. good leads, perhaps)
Saxony is not Bavaria! see discussion hence the pedigree going back may be at fault and the birthplace of Christian Weber
Arrived Philadelphia from Amsterdam 9/27/1727 with wife, Ap(p)olonia. Ship: "James Good Will". Captain Crocker set sail March 1727. 1728 - Purchased a farm on the west side "of the turnpike adjoining Gwynedd line"
~• This location would have been in Towamencin Township for we read in a history of that place that Christian was one of the original 32 landholders in there in 1732 (50 acres) (see timeline).
As the acreage was on near the Gwynedd Twp line we might guess that this was accessed by the old colonial roads and wa near the WIssahickon Creek. The Webers late had the "Evans-Mumbauer" mill in a later generation.
Built stone house there 1737
All of the early evidence of colonial settlement has been obliterated. Compare, for instance, this detail from the 1849 Wistar Map with modern googlemaps . If you put a sticker at 40.215639, -75.291088 , you are on the bridge over the Wissahickon.
Kulpsville, of which Theodore Weber Bean refers to in his discussion about his ancestor Christian, is nearby on Sumneytown Pike. Thus we may assume that the Inn that his son had was near 1442 Sumneytown Pike, for this is roughly "one half mile below Kulpsville on the west side of the road. The 50 acres that Chhristian , Sr. owned would have been further down the Pike and is now obscured by the development around Merck Corp.
Burial at Wentz cemetery, Worcester, Montgomery Co., PA
