Christian immigrated from Bavaria, Germany to Maryland.

Aliases: Wyand, Weyand, Weygant. Emigrated from Bavaria, Germany during the American Revolution and it is very likely that he was brought over by the British as one of the Hessian soldiers captured at Trenton by Gen. Washington and imprisoned in the Old Colonial Barracks in Frederick City, Maryland, and then released. This due to the fact that neither his name nor any close version of Wyand(t) has been found in port records during his lifetime. However, some small doubt may be cast as there are nearly 50 other spellings attributed to the name and many arrived in America and settled in Maryland decades earlier.

Christian was a wine maker and as of 1904 the property was still an operating winery and peach plantation under the name “Hill’s Dale”.

It is a well known fact that the progenitor of the original Wyandt family of Maryland was a bishop at the head of the plan which founded the leading divinity school in Germany in 1555 and was president of several colleges. The early settlers of this family were ministers and teachers. “The Family Record” describes the families back to Bishop John Wigand, born in Mansfield, Upper Saxony, in 1523. He was at the head of a school at 18 and was one of the founders of a theological school. He attended lectures of Luther and Melanchthon. He was the head of the University of Weimar and published many religious books.

Michael Weigand b. 1656 was the leader of the Lutheran Refugees to the Hudson River, New York in 1709, bringing the first of this family to America.
