About Christian de Gremislaw
LADY CHRISTIAN (aka DOMINE CRISTIANE or CHRISTIAN DE GREMISLAW DE EODEM)
A date of birth and death cannot be identified for Lady Christian, although she does appear to have been alive in 1429. The Scots Peerage, iii, p. 57
According to the late Sir James Balfour Paul, Lord Lyon King of Arms, the wife of Sir John Crichton 'dominus ejusdem' was named Christian. Not unreasonably, he conjectured that she was probably the same person as Christian de Gremislaw de eodem, a lady who in 1429, during her widowhood: "in mea pura et legittima viduitate" had resigned the lands of Gremislaw, in the Roxburghshire barony of Eckford, into the hands of James, King of Scots, presumably for a new grant of the same lands in favour of her son William, Lord Crichton, who afterwards had possession. The Scots Peerage, iii, p. 57 William, Lord Crichton identifies himself as the son of Sir John Crichton and his wife Christian in the foundation charter of the Colliegiate Church of Crichton: "pro salute etiam animarum quondam domini Joannis Crichton patris mei et domine Cristiane matris mee." Charters of the Hospital of Soltre, p. 306
