Excerpt from book: Courage and Grief: Women and Sweden's Thirty Years' War written by Mary Elizabeth Ailes: "Christina Grey described her difficult situation and her need for financial assistance in a letter to Queen Christina. She wrote that her husband, Captain Welam Nisbeth, was away from home serving overseas with the Swedish army. Because of his absence, she and her four small children experienced financial difficulties, and she wanted the queen to help them. Grey referred to herself as a foreign woman who was experiencing great poverty."
