In the 1841 census they are living in Ayr at Old Toll, James is 40 years old and working as a wright and Mary is 35 years old. Their children William 11 years, Christina 9 years, and James 7 years.
In 1851 Mary and James are living at 9 Old Toll. James is 51 years and Mary 46. James is now a joiner and wood merchant employing men. William 21 is a joiner and wood merchant, Christina 19 years is a hand sewer, Hugh 8 years is a scholar, Mary a scholar 6 years and Agnes is 2 years old. They have 4 apprentices and a servant living with them.
In the 1881 census Mary McNabb is widowed living at 180 Pollockshaws Road Glasgow with her single daughter Christina 46 years and Agnes Simpson her daughter and her two infants Mary two years born in Bombay India and Alexander 10 months born in Glasgow.
In 1891 Mary McNabb 85 is living with her unmarried daughters Christina 59 and Mary 44 years who works as a mantle maker.
Christina died in 1899 of heart failure. Her brother Hugh was the informant. Christina had never married. (Added April 2016).
