Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Probasco-39

Christoffel Probasco was baptized on 6 Jun 1649 in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, the son of Jurriaen Probatski and Hilletien Aertss.[1] The family came to New Netherland when Christoffel was about 5 years old, in 1654. When he took the oath of allegiance in Flatlands, Kings County in 1687 he certified that he had been in the country for 33 years. [2]

His name appears on the assessment rolls of Flatlands in 1675 and 1683. He married Eytie Janse Strycker. The couple were listed as members of the Reformed Dutch Church at Flatbush in 1677[3] and 1679[4], and Christoffel was a deacon in 1682-1684[5] an elder in 1678 and 1690. He was a magistrate in 1678 and 1686 and justice of the peace in 1693. He was listed on the census of 1698.

On 8 Aug 1671, he bought a farm of 19 morgens in Flatlands between the farms of Jan Strycker and Dirck Janse VanderVliet, abutting against Curlaer's flats, of " Tomas Lammerse and Tunis Janse Coevers," as per p. 96 of Lib. C of FP rec. In the body of the conveyance his name is written " Stoffel Jurianse Probaske." This farm he sold Feb. 4, 1698, to Bartel Claesen, as per p. 45 of Lib. A of FP' rec.

In 1690 he opposed the administration of Gov. Leisler.

Signed his name Stoffel Probasko."

Christoffel and Eytie had at least ten children together:

  • Lammetje (m. Jan Simonse Van Aersdalen)[6]
