About Christopher Spotswood
Death of Mr Christopher Spotswood Jnr. During the last three weeks since it became known that Mr. Christopher Spotswood, the manager of the Bank of Van Diemen's Land, had been attacked with typhoid fever, a very general and sympathetic concern was expressed for his progress by his numerous friends and most of the business people of the city, by whom he was well known and much respected, he became ill about a month since, he re covered sufficiently in a few day to leave his room. Again he was forced to take to his bed, From which he never rose, though his condition fluctuated for three weeks, during witch time he was mular the assiduous nu o of Dr. Blight. On Wednesday and Thursday there was a transient hope of recovery until the evening, but thoulio grew rapidly worse, and died shortly after o'clock last-night. Deceased was a son of Mr. Christopher Spotswood, sourlute bcncli clerk at Launceston, who last year retired from that position at an advanced ago to enjoy a pension ho had well-earned. He was born at New Town in IS IO, and had nearly completed his 38th year. Early in life he removed to Launceston with his father, and entered the Bank of Van Diemen's Land in Launceston as a junior clerk. About 11 years ago ho was transferred to Hobart where he occupied the position of bill clerk. Upon the reconstruction of the bank in 1880 he was appointed accountant, and in January, 1881, on the retirement of Mr. Wyatt nickling he was appointed noting manager. Six months after this appointment was confirmed in the usual way, and Mr. Spotswood became manager of the bank, which under his care has made considerable progress. The directorate had every reason to be satisfied, with his promotion and by his hard work and close application to business, united with, special ability, he had established a character which the shareholders readily recognised. His mother, who had been sent for when his condition became critical, arrived from Launceston in the express last night just in time to see her son expire. Mr. Spotswood was married, but his wife died about two years ago, and he leaves three young children behind him. We understand that the funeral will tike place at 8 a.m. on Monday morning.
