Cicely Katherine Morton

Was the daughter of George Moore of Amelia County. Was probably the sister of Ann, who married Samuel Morton, ThomasÕs cousin, (son of his uncle John).

Some people seem to think that the Catherlin Morton over age 45 listed as head of household in 1800 census for Person County, NC is this one with 1 male & 1 female 16-26, 1 male & 1 female 10-16, 2 females under 10. I find this highly unlikely. Certainly that any of the members listed with her would be any of her children. Even if one is actually age 26, that would mean Cicily had a child at age 48 in 1774. Not impossible, but unlikely. Certainly by 1785 in Prince Edward County, when her husband Thomas was in the census, the household was listed as containing 3 whites - supposedly Thomas, his wife Cicily, and their youngest child. Would that perhaps have been Icy or Susannah?

Also there are claims that a Catherine Morton appears on a tax list for Person County, NC in 1799 and again in 1802.
