About Claiborne Anderson Fowler
Chapter XIX.
DESCENDANTS OF JOSEPH FOWLER OF WAKE COUNTY, N. C. Embracing the family of Bullard Fowler of Charlotte County, Va., and Wake County, N. C. The William Anderson Fowler of Wake County, N. C., and his sons, Claiborne Anderson Fowler of Bedford County, Tenn.; and William Fowler of Warren County, Tenn., and later Kentucky . . . . . . - . 503
1. Claiborne Anderson Fowler, the oldest son of Capt. William Anderson Fowler, sold his land in Wake
County, North Carolina, and removed to Tennessee as we find him living in Bedford County in 1820. The only record we have of his descendants is a son, John Fowler, who was living in Smithville, DeKalb County, Tennessee, or near that town, in the 1840 and 1850 census. He was overseer of roads and a Cabinet maker, and there are records in order books of coffins made by him for paupers in that county in 1850.
John Fowler ran a carding factory where the Smithville Ice Plant is now located. He was a small man with little black eyes, and a Republican in politics. To him and his wife Elizabeth Kelly were born nine children.
