FAULKNER: CLARENCE ALBERT World War 2 Veteran, Deceased September 3rd, 2008. Born on the family farm in the Oak Hills October 26th, 1919 to Sarah (Eggleton) and Fred Faulkner. Predeceased by his parents and brothers Harry Vernon and William Francis and recently by daughter Frances (Zandbergen). He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lottie (Barkhouse). Sadly missed by daughters Nancy (Ken) Sherk-Stirling, Bonnie (Ron) McNamara-Belleville and Karen (Bob) Bird-North Bay. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Deanna, Tamara, Michael, Shannon, Christopher, Peter, Sarah, Russell, Adam, two great grandchildren, nephews, Leslie, Bruce, Fred and niece Marion. Dearest friend of Glen Smethurst. Clare grew up on the family farm in the Oak Hills. He played junior hockey in Lindsay then was sent to Galt where he continued to amaze the masses with his skating abilities. The Detroit Red Wings farm team drafted him. He was called up and played professional for the team, until he decided to go into the Armed Forces. Clare was sent to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia where he worked as a mechanical engineer on airplanes, and eventually flew submarine missions in international waters. Clare met Lottie Barkhouse in Dartmouth and after the war and a brief long-distance courtship, they married and took up residence in Belleville. After the war he started his own business Clare Faulkner Auto Service on the corner of Dundas Street and Pinnacle, where Speedy Auto Glass is now located, working from 1949-1951. He sold his business to work for Canada Cement/Lafarge from 1951-1984-a devoted employee for 33 years. During his work at Canada Cement he coached the winning OHL Intermediate "C" Championships in 1955. An active member in the Moira Lodge, Grand Council, Grand Chapter, Preceptory, High Priesthood, York Rite College, Past Grand Master, Past Patron of Belleville 55 the Order of the Eastern Star and the Shrine Club. Known to his friends as an avid sportsman, he was a hunter, a fisherman, flew his beloved tailorcraft aircraft and also navigated his hydroplane in the Hayward Long Reach Boat Racing Championships. It has been a very long road, not without tears, and glimpses of memories of days gone by. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Belleville Funeral Home and Chapel, 68 North Front Street, Belleville (613-968-5080) on Saturday September 6th, 2008 at 11:00a.m. Rev. Dr. Hal Wilson officiating. Reception to follow. Private Interment. Anyone who wishes to speak are welcome to share a word or more. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to Hastings Manor, The Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Society. The family extends a sincere thank you to the exceptional staff of Hastings Manor for the genuine friendship, humour and care. Their attention to Clare, and their ability to listen to stories and smile, will always be cherished. Officers and members of the Order of the Eastern Star #55 & Moira Lodge # 11 are requested to assemble at the funeral home Saturday September 6th, 2008 at 10:45a.m. for a combined service of remembrance for the late brother Clare Faulkner.
