About Clarence (Ole) Olson

Clarence's body is interred in Lot 11, div B, Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, NE. A neighbor brought me (Connie Olson Streeter) his funeral bulletin in 2019. It was a double funeral with his first cousin John Swanson who died on the same day but in North Platte, NE. This neighbor remembered that Clarence's sister, Emma, had not wanted it to be a double funeral but that an older sister's preference won out. He also remembered that when the doctor come out to issue the death certificate that the doctor told Emma that Clarence had not needed to die then because they now had a great antibiotic, penicillin, that would have saved his life. But obviously Clarence had not sought a doctor's help. I remember the night he died even though I was only about 9 years old at the time. My grandmother, Esther, got me out of bed and took me with them (I think it was Chan and my grandmother) to Ole & Emma's farm. Yes, we called him "Uncle Ole." I remember it was a chilly dark night but not bad weather; I remember the house being quite somber and that the light in the house was not bright. I also remember seeing his body lying on the bed with his feet sticking out where he had died. His sister Emma Anderson had lived with him and acted as his housekeeper since her divorce. Uncle Ole never married. After his father's death, he operated the family homestead. He held one-fifth interest in the homestead. His sister Emma and her children lived with him. In June 1937, Emma, Agnes, and Clarence purchased the interests of their brothers Peter and Andrew in the family homestead. A value of $15,000 (approx. $47 per acre) was placed on the farm of 320 acres. His estate [in 1951] which included 1/3 interest in the land , NE 1/4, Section 11, Twp 7, Rge 18 (Center) Phelps county, Nebraska, was devised to his surviving sisters (Emma and Agnes), and to the children of his deceased brothers (Andrew & Peter).
